The Children's Haircutting Guide

Hairstyle trend: Classic parting

Short back and sides with more weight on top to show off textures or curls.

1. Talk to your child about the haircutting process. Explain to them what you are going to do and show them the clipper, making sure they know it won't hurt to have their hair cut.

2. Turn on the clipper before you begin so your child can hear the noise they make.

3. Make sure they have a comfortable chair to sit in, with a focus point ahead of them. Hopefully this will reduce their fidgeting and keep their head straight.

4. Have them wear a cutting cape which will stop their cut hair itching around their neck.

5. Make the haircutting experience a positive one and offer a reward once it's all done.

How to Style a Classic Parting

The ideal back to school style. This cut has a short back and sides, with more weight on top.

1. Decide whether you would like a left or right parting and put it in with a comb.

2. Graduate the length of the hair, from longer at the top to shorter at the bottom using the different attachment combs that come with the clipper. Move the clippers in a downward motion when cutting. 
 

3. Use your left and right ear taper combs around the ears. 

4. A trimmer is ideal for tidying up necklines and creating straight lines. 

5. For an ultra-sharp finish, use a trimmer to cut a parting in.

Grooming Tips

• Before you cut your child's hair, ensure it is clean, dry and tangle free

• Ensure you trim in a well-lit room, with a focus point such as a television straight ahead

• Have a hairstyle in mind and focus on achieving this. Cut slowly, and at longer lengths initially as this makes it easier to correct mistakes

• After each use, ensure you clean and oil the blades of the clipper
