Unlike typical air conditioners that turn on and off to adjust temperatures, the DUAL Inverter Compressor™ constantly adjusts its speed to maintain desired temperature levels. That means less fluctuation and greater energy savings of up to 25%.

LG’s Inverter room air conditioners produce substantially more energy savings when compared with non-Inverter room air conditioners. Inverter technology is used in conjunction with a variable-speed compressor. It adjusts compressor motor speed to regulate temperature more effectively than non-Inverter room air conditioners, which turn the compressor either on or off. Testing has shown that LG’s Inverter room air conditioner model (LW1517IVSM) saved 25% more than non-Inverter room air conditioner model. This was measured in the following manner. The Department of Energy (DOE) test procedure for room air conditioners does not measure Inverter technology and thus does not reflect energy savings as between Inverter and non-Inverter Technologies. AHRI Standard 210/240 (2008) (2008 Standard for Performance Rating of Unitary Air-Conditioning & Air-Source Heat Pump Equipment) does measure Inverter Technology (see §6.1.4.7, Tests For A Unit Having A Variable-speed Compressor) under a variety of conditions. Testing was thus conducted using AHRI 210/240 (2008) § 6.1.4.7 and Energy Star Directive No. 2011-04 (verification testing for certification bodies), as well as the criteria of the Energy Star 2018 Emerging Technology Award Requirements; Room Air Conditioners with Efficient Variable Output (EVO), which has been awarded to LG. In the meantime, LG is working with DOE on developing a DOE test procedure that will directly address Inverter Technology for room air conditioners. Testing was conducted at Intertek, a third-party laboratory.
